For the Owls

A Spotted Eagle Owl (Bubo Africanus) which was taken in and nursed to health by animal lover Chris Pretorius.  Pretorius rehabilitates owls, raptors and other animals with the intention of returning them to their natural habitats once he has helped them to a degree where their chances of survival in the wild are in their favour. This owl was found hanging from a pole by a wire attached to its leg having been tortured and abused for supposed traditional practices used by Sangomas or witch-doctors in South Africa allegedly in order to gain the owls 'magical properties'. The owl is blind as a result of damaging blows to the head, however he can still function thanks to his abnormally excellent hearing. ©Jamie Tucker
